Building a Positive Online Personal Brand for Postdocs: Using LinkedIn, Blogs and other Social Media Tools

In this workshop, participants will learn how to build and develop a professional online personal brand using sites like LinkedIn. The workshop will include a detailed review of the functionality of LinkedIn and how to customize a profile. The importance of highlighting background and experiences will be discussed and ways to develop thought leadership to complement your resume will be demonstrated. Twitter, Facebook and blogs will be discussed briefly to highlight their importance for brand building. Finally, participants will learn how organizations utilize these tools to identify talent for open positions.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate best practices for building a professional LinkedIn profile
2. Tailor this profile depending upon your career interests
3. Describe how organizations use LinkedIn to identify talent

This workshop is the fourth and final in a series of workshops designed to assist postdocs in obtaining the skills necessary to transition to positions in industry. Attendance at these workshops will allow participants to have access to the BWH Postdoc Association’s Connectors Program, a resource for connecting with postdoc alumni who are working in the private sector.
