Dr. Odom will present his insights and recommendations into how to create successful applications to the highest-prestige and most competitive career-establishing and laboratory establishing awards. His own successes have included winning: an NIH-NIDDK K25 award ($700K, 2003), an ERC Starting Grant (€900K, 2008), election to the EMBO Young Investigator’s Programme (€50K, 2010) ERC Consolidator Award (€1.9M, 2013), and a Wellcome Trust Investigator Award (£2M, 2017). His advice is further informed by his experiences in having served in the Wellcome Trust Peer Review College and as a core reviewer for the European Research Council’s Starting and Consolidator programmes.
His presentation is not recommended for the faint of heart.
